DSSers,
I’ll be jacking out of the Matrix for a few days.
So no updates.
The comments are kicking butt, though. Keep it up.
I was also wondering if someone wanted to write a guest Demand Studios Sucks spot?
The pay is minimal and I will keep 100% of the ad revenue from any writing that you do.
You can just email me (patrick at demandstudiossucks.com) or send it in through the contact form.

One thing that does need pointing out: big companies issue misinformation and lies all the time. To assert otherwise is naive. While I would not point to anything in particular in this case (it usually only comes out in an investigation or in court anyway), this much is evident. When the bosses say one thing and a large cross-section of their employees (or consumers) say another, that automatically makes whatever “evidence” the bosses produce suspect. Stats in general should be treated as suspect unless you can see the details behind how they were drawn up, a point learned by any student in Stats 101.

And furthermore, you haven’t read a word I’ve written. The news piece is not solely based on my own DS experiences. It’s been a collaboration of many who are on the inside. FYI: Be careful, you never know who is looking over your shoulder.
At least for me, my cover was blown, and I’m out of Demand Media, so I freely can write anything I want about DS. But as a journalist, I NEVER, EVER knowingly print information that is flat-out wrong. That’s the difference between Demand Studios “content” and what I do.
Believe what you want. The only approval I seek is from the M.E. and Business Editor

I completely understand. And yes, I like to have the last word.

The problem with your reply is that I vividly remember your posts, simply because my family also had endured a recent medical issue, and, thinking your post was gospel, I knew you had put yourself through unnecessary distress.
Within that thread, you got into verbal battles with copy editors who were defending Demand against a story you now admit you fabricated.
Furthermore, you also admit you fabricated other stories about Demand. It’s also apparent that you’ve based criticism of the company on assumptions you never bothered to verify with a lead.
That’s your version of journalism? Are you kidding me?
You can have the last word on this. It’s clear you’ll keep posting until you do. But it doesn’t matter. After this admission, there is no way to verify that anything you write is true.

MarkKl: You’ll thank me when the IRS makes its ruling on Demand Media.
I’m sorry you feel let down. It’s the nature of investigative journalism. No underground details can be obtained from a reporter wearing his press credentials for all to see.
At least on here, I can share some information that we’ve obtained. I hope that DSS posters can take what they need and leave the rest. If I can help anyone at DS find a way out of the vicious DS circle, I’ll be more than happy to do anything I can. That goes for you, too, MarkKL.
Best wishes,
Kathy

No, you didn’t burst my bubble. But this admission bursts your credibility with me.
You made up a story and used that story to make an accusation against Demand.
Remarkable.
There really is nothing more to write.
Have a good day. I can’t waste any more time with this after that.

You are assuming way too much. I hate to burst your bubble, but my colleagues and I concocted many posts that have been or currently are displayed on the DS General Forum threads. We received a true reaction, or nonreaction in the case of “management,” from those posts. Those posts contain fact and fiction. Yes, I had a heart attack. Yes, my husband brought my laptop to the hospital. But was I working on DS crap? No … I was working on my news piece, which continues to be my assignment. Thanks in advance for your contribution.

I respect your cred as a journalist, but that makes me wonder why you didn’t go to greater lengths to verify some of your assumptions.
Let me be specific. I didn’t open this thread first thing on the site this morning. Instead, I opened a thread at the top of the list, one in which a current Demand CE expressed concerns about meeting editing a set number of articles every week.
The post under your name read, “From my experience and other CEs I know, te 75/week is not strictly enforced.”
And yet, in the Demand forum thread I referred to earlier, you noted how you asked someone–I think it was your husband–to bring your laptop to the emergency room–I believe you had suffered a heart condition of some sort; it sounded serious and I hope the worst is behind you–because you feared you would lose your relationship with Demand if you didn’t edit 75 articles that week.
Some people would call these two posts contradictory. I do not, so please don’t infer that. I’m sure you believed you had to hit that number while you lay in the ER in what sounds like a life-threatening situation.
But it’s now obvious that you have since learned you were wrong, and that the number is not, to use your words, “strictly enforced.”
And my own experience in a similar circumstance tells me you were wrong.
In other words, you made an incorrect assumption, one that very well may have placed your life in danger.
It makes me wonder how many other of your assumptions are incorrect. That doesn’t mean all of them are wrong, but I wish you had confirmed your suspicions with your lead.
I hope your medical issues are no longer a concern.

MarkKL: I truly am glad Demand Studios has been a fantastic outlet for you.
But I’m a print news journalist. Black ink runs through my veins. I’m a news hound, whose job is to seek out and tell the truth. And my piece on Demand Media is not solely based on my experiences. I have spent many, many months conducting extensive research.
The most ironic thing for me is that I signed on with DS to pay for my Caribbean vacation (which it did). Print news journalists only make around 35K or so. It wasn’t until much later that I realized I had a good print news piece. It’s been an incredible journey, and my eyes have opened to a much bigger picture about “journalism,” in general.
I wish you and everyone at Demand Media the best of luck while it lasts.
P.S. Journalists often are harassed, even receiving bomb threats. So the DS loony toons don’t bother me much. When they physically show up at my home or workplace, then there’s going to be a problem. I have a trained German shepherd, and I don’t call 9-1-1. LOL
