Hey DSSers,
Wanted to take a break from talking about the Bacchanalia that was the Demand Studios conference in LA to get back to some tips here.
And boy is this one a doozy.
This was submitted by one of our new readers over in the forum. You haven’t been to the forum yet?
What the hell is taking you so long? It’s free! Get over there.
Now, the tip.
Dammit!! Where was this 5,000 words ago when I kept losing articles? The first thing you gotta do to use this tip is start using Firefox. Not using Firefox? You should. It’s the best browser out there. From the people who brought you Netscape.
Aaahhh, Netscape, back in the glorious days of the web, when you could check your mailbox without being deluged with offers of lots of low cost drugs for your penis or computer equipment…
But I digress….
One of the neat things about Firefox is that it allows you to incorporate a number of plug ins to your browsing experience. Things like Ad Blockers, Web Developer tools, and now…..LAZARUS!
What does Lazarus do? Well, it saves the information in web forms that you are working on in case the browser crashes.
Or if there is SERVER DOWNTIME because the SYSTEM IS BEING WORKED ON.
Sound familiar? Get my drift?
Literally, the minute after I installed Lazarus, it saved me about 10 minutes of lost writing. I try to save my articles after each section. This time, I didn’t and accidentally clicked on another button in my toolbar. BAM. There goes a whole paragraph I wrote.
Until I right clicked on the web form and the Lazarus menu popped up. It asked me if I wanted to ressurect the text.
HELL TO THE YEAH!!
Why Lazarus? Remember your Sunday school? Lazarus was the dude that Jesus rose from the dead? Hmmm. Actually, doesn’t that technically make Lazarus a zombie? (While we’re on that subject, that makes Jesus a zombie as well) Wonder if he spent any time in the DS Forums.
Worked perfectly. Probably about the best time saving Demand tip out there.
Thanks DSSers!

Awesome! I’ve had a few issues and sometimes I back click cause my cat sits on my mouse, too. I’ll have to try this LOL

I did the same thing, Patrick! Installed Lazarus and like 10 minutes later accidentally pushed the back button. Would have lost the entire article if it weren’t for that gem, so THANK YOU to the person that recommended it! (I am too lazy to look. Sorry.)

It’s still in development for Chrome. Sometimes it works, but it’s still buggy, especially for non-Windows operating systems.

If your browser starts acting sluggish, clear your data from Laz settings.

P.S. – Do you have any other Firefox add-on suggestions? I’m particularly interested in possible web developer add-ons.

Lazarus is great. I’ve heard that it also works on Chrome, though I can’t confirm that since I use Firefox as well.
