DSS: New Forum Rules

Hey DSSers – we’ve had some problems in the forums lately, so we’ve had to call on our old buddy Giff Head to straighten things out.

How to To What I Tell You

Rules of Conduct

Listen up, yo….

The forum is for professionals actively working with Demand Studios Sucks, dumbasses.

While DSS staff will participate in discussions to provide answers and insight, the forum is also a place for you to gather, discuss and help one another how best to squeeze the last few drops out of the dying horse that was Demand Studios.

We trust you to be courteous, but [...]

The 2K Title Queue and New Sections

How to Toss One's Salad

Happy 2012, DSSer’s!!

Hope your holidays were a good one!

Just took a sneaky peek at the DMS queue and we’re edging down to the 2000 mark. I think it’s pretty safe to say that by midnight tonight the queue will be south of 2K.

What strange times we live in! Why, it seems like only a few days ago we had a queue full of 100,000+ titles, with over 500 variations on Tossing Someone’s Salad that could be whipped out in a matter of minutes by any seasoned DMS/DSSer.

Ahhhh, those were the days.

The other bit of news we [...]

Happy Holidays from DSS!!!

How to Hack

Hey kiddies!

Sorry it’s been so long in between updates. You know how the holidays are. Dick and I are taking some well deserved (if we do say so) time off to travel the globe over the festive season. So I just wanted to leave you with a few tidbits.

It’s been a crazy year, from the glory days of $20 plus DMD stock back at the beginning of the year, all the way down to the $7 bargain bin table.

What does 2012 hold (Other than Armageddon, of course)?

The end of eHow as we know it?

A return [...]

The Writer Strikes Back

How to Quit eHow

Got this rather lengthy note from a DSSer. Thought it was worthwhile to post it up here, since it seems like we’re all seeing the same thing going on at DS.

Queue is at about 8,000 or so, I hear, so it seems like Ehos’s got about another couple of months on the burn rate.

Quite honestly, it sounds like the eHow “editors” or whoever are reading these appeals are acting like a bunch of immature jerks.  This is a “professional” company, mind you, that wants to be taken seriously.

Just firing someone who brought up their track record during an appeal? [...]

Demand Studios – Go F**k Yourselves

How to Get Even

Editors note: We do not condone this type of behavior.

But we understand it.

Just another one of the delightful emails we’ve been getting since the Demand shakeout.

We hear that the title queue has now fallen beneath 12K titles.

Should be a fun Xmas for all the zombies.

Dear Demand,

Much like you’ve put others out of work and f**ked me out of my last $15, I have now decided to turn the tables.

Just as you took a big s*** on me, I will now take a big old s*** on you.

How’s that?

I will be introducing deliberate [...]

The Story Gets Out…

How to Stack Your eHow Money Earnings

Oh, boy. Things are getting crazy now.

Check out this story in WebPro News that quotes a few Demand Writers (hey, what about us?!!) including our very own Kenneth Crawford!

Here’s the part that got me, though…

A writer, who wishes to remain anonymous, tells WebProNews, “I’ve been writing for Demand Studios since 2009 and have only used the income for pocket money, however recently I intended to expand my writing with them. In May 2011 I qualified to write for eHow Money a specialized category for writers with professional experience and the appropriate credentials in addition [...]

Livestrong Nutrition Going on a Diet?

How to Go on a Diet

Hey kids!

Long time no hear, huh?

Well, sorry, now that I have a “real” job, I’m finding myself much less at Demand Studios (and Demand Studios Sucks, for that matter), than back in the salad days.

Speaking of the salad days, how about that title queue? I don’t have the super top secret Tech Beta privileges, so I don’t get to see those articles, but the general eHow and associated other eHows queues is hovering at a grim 40K titles.

Gone are the days when I was able to write ten articles on Tossing Someone’s Salad in a day.

So [...]

Suck Suck and Away

Recent purges of the writer rolls by Demand Media editorial have generated an uptick in our our correspondence from fellow freelancers. Their system is broken. The writer evaluation program is designed more to purge the writer roles than to justly evaluate scribes. Moreover, Demand Media may be systematically turning rejected articles into published pieces. Writers are denied payment for their work, but rejected writing appears to pass through the DMS system to later be monetized by Demand Media. Our Demand Studios Sucks forums exist to alleviate the power imbalance between freelancers and the company. [...]

Zombies Petition Demand for More Titles

Demand Studios contractors are beginning to freak out about the lack of titles and information coming from Demand. On the flip side, Demand is being pretty dickish about not putting out any kind of information at all about the dearth of titles. “We, as the freelance community of Demand Studios, demand that we be given real, precise and frequent updates as to the status and reasons behind the disappearance of titles from our lists and queues.” [...]
