So I'm officially in "don't give a fuck" mode. I've decided that these next 70 DS articles will be my last. 70 articles separate me from freedom. After writing probably 30 of those this weekend, I'll just do 40 during the week next week and then it's peace out. I'm not going to worry about being "fired" or getting a low score. Just going to do the bare minimum, collect my cash and leave DMS behind.

I started the new gig last night and like it a lot. It's different writing news as opposed to how-tos, but the adjustment so far has been fairly easy. It's nice to write in a normal (even humorous) voice. It's nice to have guaranteed, hourly payment. And it's nice to work for a guy that is both understanding and wants to reward his contractors for good work. Doesn't hurt that he actually asks for your opinion and listens to it.

I also just found out I've been hired for another gig I applied for. Different work, but still writing stuff and for a little more per hour. Potential to go full-time with that, too. Once my paychecks start kicking in, I can officially give up on even logging into DMS. As it is, I can barely stomach logging in right now. That's a day I never thought I'd see.

I hope the rest of my fellow DSS'ers are able to find rewarding gigs/jobs as well. I have no doubt we all will, though. Good stuff is out there.

I haven't written for DMS since August and have only written 50+ articles total. DMS was a filler for me, not a main source of income, so with all the foolishness going on, I have had no desire to deal with it.

I have 60+ articles at Bright Hub (not doing anything there any more, either), 70+ at WiseGEEK and nearly 100 at Writer Access - and probably another 100+ among several other sites/clients.

So I'm not the prolific content writer some of you are, with 1000s of articles to my name. I just do a variety of freelance and entrepreneurial endeavors, based on my education and experience.

It seems like this is the way many people are going - finding totally different types of writing opportunities and/or something unrelated to writing. In the long run, it's all about doing what you have to in order to survive financially and professionally.

There was a $40 job on writers access but it was 3 600 word articles on a topic I didn't know at all so I didn't take it.

So revisiting this thread.....and inspired by Clue (and others who are leaving DMS behind), I've decided I'm only going to give myself one last week at DMS. I know I've said this before, but I mean it this time. :D

Technically, I don't even have to do it, but I want to milk DMS one last time to get a large bill paid off. I figure manning it up for 6-7 days will let me do that, even with the lack of titles and dickhead CEs. As long as I don't totally slack, it's totally doable and I'll be writing for the last time at DMS next Wednesday.

I've been pretty lucky. This past week has been great as far as freelancing is concerned. I secured one gig where I'm writing 4 articles per week for one client (at a rate much better than DMS) and another gig where the client wants me for at least 15-20 hours per week at a good hourly wage. That's in addition to the three other clients I already have. One of my first clients now may be giving me a full-time position if his latest contract goes through, which means I'll be very much set.

Kind of crazy considering where I was a month and a half ago--completely dependent on DMS with no signs of that changing. It's nice to actually have a real future in the freelance world, even if it isn't what I ultimately end up doing.

Zombs who are reading this take note: I'm not even that great of a writer, yet I managed to secure 5 clients within 5-6 weeks of beginning my search. If I can do it, lazy as I am, you probably can too--if you stop popping out kids long enough to actually look and apply, that is.

DSS bros and sistas who have already beat me to the promise land: I look forward to joining you there.

DSS'ers who are still writing for DMS: Your time will come to get out of the hell hole, and I hope it's soon. :)

When I do stop writing for DMS, I probably won't go out with a big bang. I kinda like the idea of keeping my forum account to see the lolz when DMS finally ceases article production entirely.

Good luck! I don't know if I'm more excited about this new job or more excited that I finally never have to see a shit rewrite from dumbass editors in TB ever again.

I'll still do stuff on the side, but it's gonna be small jobs like SEO audits and maybe some quick articles from elance jobs. I have a tech ebook I'm halfway done with and some coding ideas, so hopefully they make me some extra money. I'd like to make an extra $200/week, but I'll settle for $100/week. My last car payment is in March, and that's $550 that I no longer need to pay out. I'ma put it in the bank every month, hope my car lasts for another year, and buy a new car in 2013 hopefully with $6k down plus my trade in which won't be much, but possibly $4k for a total of $10k down.

^ Yeah, my plan is similar. Once I land a solid full-time job around here (assuming I decide to give up the freelance thing for good), I'm going to aim for an extra $100-$200 per week. I'll use that to build up my savings at first, then save for vacations, house etc. I don't mind doing a little extra work if it means a good amount of free money. :D

So this week is my last at DMS. I'm slogging through what's left of the shitty TB articles and wondering how I ever thought writing this stuff made me a writer. All it is is making sense of fucked up titles and researching to write whatever the title/dickhead CEs want. That's it. Coming from the writing work I've been doing as of late, it's so fucking painful, boring and meaningless. The only thing that's motivating me to continue on is the knowledge that each article brings me $18 closer to my monetary goal.

This weekend I'm going to be putting up a pretty big number of articles. It's going to just about kill me writing so much shit, but I'm doing it all for one thing: the money. Should be a nice check on Tuesday/Friday unless the CEs decide to be dicks. Even if they do and I only get like 50% of the articles accepted, it's still a nice amount of money.

BTW, part of me feels bad for the CEs that are hanging around DS. It must suck to be that desperate for work. Even when submitting articles at 2 or 3 in the morning, they're picked up almost automatically so the CEs must be hanging around at all hours just trying to get some work.

Anyway, back to the mine. I so cannot wait to be done with this place.

Ugh, good luck.

I personally have only wrote 3 articles this month, I have some saved in case I feel like writing them, but as of right now, I just don't want to.

I usually do the error articles, or anything about .exe or.dll files but even the writable ones of those are in short supply. The rest pretty much bores the crap outta me.
